Employee Spotlight: Mai Nguyen, PLA - Associate // Landscape Architect

Oct 20

Mai Nguyen, PLA | Associate // Landscape Architect | PLOT Studio

PLOT’s story wouldn’t be the same without Mai Nguyen. As our first employee, Mai has been here from the beginning, helping shape the studio as it has grown. We’re kicking off our team spotlight series by celebrating her work, her perspective, and her place in PLOT’s story.

Mai’s path to landscape architecture began with work in environmental education, food justice, and community development in Louisville, Kentucky. That background brings a strong community focus to her work, with particular attention to making outdoor spaces inclusive and accessible.

As an Associate at PLOT, Mai works across concept development, hardscape and landscape design, project management and construction observation. Her project experience includes Casona in Grand Prairie, Texas, Urban Supply in Birmingham’s Parkside District, and Tapestry Orange Beach. Across these different settings, her work addresses a goal of creating places that welcome people and support everyday life.

Mai’s 2022-2026 Highlights:

Adaptive design for the Parkside District / Urban Supply
Central Florida project site visit; local plant research for the PLOT library
Entry and private courtyard for the renovated UA Psychology program building
Planting plan for public access point to Valley Creek
Active transportation planning for the City of Trussville

Mai earned her bachelor’s degree in economics from Bellarmine University before pursuing a Master of Landscape Architecture at Louisiana State University. She also contributes to the profession through her service on the Alabama ASLA Executive Committee.

As we celebrate four years of PLOT, we’re especially grateful for the people who helped us get started. Mai took that early step with us, and her contributions are part of the foundation we continue to build on.

Thank you, Mai, for being part of PLOT from day one.
