ALBERTVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY
ALBERTVILLE, ALABAMA
Following the loss of the former Albertville Public Library to a fire, the City of Albertville embraced the opportunity to create something greater than a replacement. The new library is envisioned as a welcoming civic destination where learning, recreation, nature, and community life come together.
Working alongside Chambless King Architects, PLOT Studio designed the landscape as an extension of the library itself. The site is organized around the preservation of its mature tree canopy, allowing the new building and outdoor spaces to feel naturally embedded within the park. A connected system of walks, trails, and boardwalks creates opportunities to explore the landscape while strengthening connections between the library and the surrounding community.
Integrated play elements, flexible lawns, outdoor gathering spaces, and thoughtfully placed site furnishings support everything from quiet reading and everyday recreation to community events. Layered planting and landscape lighting reinforce the character of the architecture while creating comfortable, inviting spaces throughout the day and into the evening.
Together, the architecture and landscape transform the Albertville Public Library into a true civic living room. It is a place designed not only for books, but for discovery, gathering, play, and the next chapter of community life in Albertville.
