TRUSSVILLE ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION MASTERPLAN
TRUSSVILLE, ALABAMA
The Trussville Active Transportation Masterplan envisions a more connected city, linking neighborhoods, schools, parks, and downtown through a coordinated network of trails, sidewalks, and bicycle connections. Working with SAIN Associates and the City of Trussville, PLOT Studio approached the plan through a combination of research, fieldwork, and collaboration. GIS analysis layered existing and planned routes with roadways, waterways, open space, and community destinations to identify missing connections and opportunities for a more complete network. Survey information and site reconnaissance helped evaluate these opportunities against existing conditions, grounding the planning process in the landscape and the places people use every day.
Stakeholder review meetings provided opportunities to review alternatives, discuss local needs, and refine proposed connections. This exchange between mapped data, observations in the field, and stakeholder input shaped a plan that considers both movement through the city and the experience along the way. Proposed routes connect everyday destinations while creating opportunities to encounter Trussville’s waterways, wooded corridors, and public spaces. The resulting masterplan provides a framework for future investment, guiding the expansion of an active transportation network that supports daily travel, outdoor recreation, and stronger connections throughout the community.
