LIVELY ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT - PHASE I
PHENIX CITY, ALABAMA
Lively District – Phase I establishes the foundation for a vibrant mixed-use destination that reimagines the heart of downtown Phenix City. Designed to encourage community gathering and year-round activity, the project transforms underutilized public space into an inviting urban environment that supports events, recreation, and everyday life.
The first phase introduces a central civic plaza anchored by an event lawn and performance stage, creating a flexible venue for concerts, festivals, markets, and community celebrations. A signature splash pad, interactive play opportunities, generous seating, and shaded gathering spaces activate the district throughout the day, while enhanced streetscapes and pedestrian connections strengthen links to surrounding businesses, neighborhoods, and the Chattahoochee River.
Landscape architecture serves as the framework for the district, integrating planting, hardscape, lighting, and public amenities into a cohesive experience that is both functional and memorable. Every element is designed to encourage people to linger, explore, and connect while establishing a strong identity for this emerging downtown destination.
As the first step in a larger vision for the Lively District, Phase I demonstrates how thoughtful public investment can catalyze redevelopment, support local businesses, and create meaningful places that contribute to the long-term vitality of the community.
